< TWO WAYS >
------------
TWO WAYS is a Christian text adventure -- a twentieth-century, sometimes
just a little mixed up "Tale of Two Cities". You, the weary traveler, can
choose between a quick and easy path to the city of Eirene or take the path
which leads through Apoleia, a city fraught with untold hidden dangers which
can strike without warning.
In this day of R&X rated everything, I offer this unabashedly evangelistic
text adventure for your consideration and enjoyment. Of course, there are
numerous Biblical quotations and personal biases, however, I think you will
find them presented in an entertaining fashion by the time you have discovered
all the traps, solved the puzzles, acquired all the points and finished the
adventure. Besides which, if the "religious" stuff gets a little thick you can
always skip ahead or even quit--well, almost always. Which reminds me, be sure
and check out the helpful hints which, if not always helpful at all times,
should at least provide some insight into this man's too often twisted sense of
humor.
--Grant E. Metcalf
You are a weary night time traveler who has been sent out by your master into
the world to look for valuable treasure. The darkness seems to press down
heavily on your shoulders as you pick your way along an obscure desert trail
toward the eastern horizon. The sounds and shadows of the passing night have
served well to frighten you many times. Scratched, bruised and scared half out
of your wits, after innumerable collisions and falls in the dark, you wonder
what thing of so great importance could exist, causing you to embark on such
a journey as this.
Miserable traveler that you are, once again, you stumble over some unseen
object hidden by the darkness. Somehow, life just doesn't seem fair. If there
was a God, if you could just find Him, then you would lodge your complaint and
demand an answer.

I, Paul, would share with you the good news which I also have received, how
that Christ died on behalf of our sins according to the sacred writings; and
that He was entombed, and that He has been raised on the third day according
to the sacred writings: after which He was seen by a great number of eye
witnesses including myself.
Having elsewhere concluded in my letter to the Romans that there is no one
who is righteous, not so much as one, but that all have sinned and are falling
short of the glory of God, I greatly rejoice when considering that God is now
constantly proving His own love to us, since while we were yet sinners, Christ
died in our behalf. It is no longer necessary to rely on the subsistence
rewards of our sinful nature which result in death, because the free gift of
God is life eternal in Christ Jesus our Lord.
How, you may ask, does one receive this gift? The key is to believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ. If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and
will believe in your heart that God raised Him from among the dead, you will
be saved. For with the heart faith is exercised resulting in righteousness,
and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. As the sacred
writings say, "Everyone who believes in Him shall not be put to shame.
Now that you have received the good news along with the key, perhaps you would
like to resume your journey south and east in search of the city of Eirene?

WHAT IS GOD?
-----------
Did you notice that the question is not "who" is God but "what"? Do you
know that the God of the Bible is a genuine "person"? For only a personality
can demonstrate those characteristics attributed to the God of the Bible.
God sees and hears: "And the LORD said, I have surely seen the
affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of
their taskmasters; and I know their sorrow;"--Exodus 3:7
God creates: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
--Genesis 1:1
God remembers: "Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a pleasant child? for since
I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore My bowels are
troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, says the LORD."--
Jeremiah 31:20
God speaks (subject-object relationship): "And He said, (to Moses)
'Certainly I will be with you; and this shall be a token unto you; that I have
sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God
upon this mountain.' "--Exodus 3:12
God has a will: "in whom also we were made a heritage, having been
foreordained according to the purpose of Him who works all things after the
counsel of His will."--Ephesians 1:11
God is a personal spirit: "God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him
must worship in spirit and in truth."--John 4:24
God knows (has a mind): "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,
says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
--Jeremiah 29:11
God will judge: "Marvel not at this, for the hour comes, in which all
that are in the tombs shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that
have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil
unto the resurrection of judgment." "And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men
once to die, and after this comes judgment; so Christ also, having been once
offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin,
to them that wait for Him, unto salvation."--John 5:28-29, Hebrews 9:27-28
God loves and gives: "But God commends his own love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." "Herein is love, not that we
loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the satisfaction for
our sins." "in whom we have our redemption through His blood, the forgiveness
of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace." "For by grace you are
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: not of
works, that no man should boast."--Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:10, Ephesians 1:7,2:8-9
In light of the above quotations, it is evident that the God of the Bible
is a real person who creates, sees and hears, thinks, speaks and remembers. No
I haven't forgotten that He also judges, demanding satisfaction for every wrong
done by man. But, because of love, He offers to us His Son through faith to be
our satisfaction for sins. This is the will of God "Who desires that all men
be saved and come to a precise and experiential knowledge of the truth, for
there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a Man, Christ Jesus,
who gave himself a ransom on behalf of all." I have obeyed "His will" and put
my faith in Jesus. He has proven Himself to be a friend true to His word. He
gives peace and direction in every aspect of my life. Perhaps today you too
would like to place your trust in Jesus.
Concerning the "new age", it is as old as the tower of Babel (maybe the
Ziggurat of Nimrud), fabricating from the immoral religious and philosophical
practices of antiquity the alleged "new way". From the beginning, the God of
the Bible has warned against such beliefs and activities. Impending disaster
awaits those who refuse to turn back.

The coloring of the parrot's plumage is varied and vivid ranging from brilliant

bobs her head with a flourish and begins to recite a bit of poetry--
"My name, it is Poly, I'm an eclectic bird.
For you I will parrot from religions I've heard.
I'll pick some from this one, and from that one i'll choose,
Whichever one suits me, that's the one I will use.
To begin--there is Good, an impersonal force,
A principle, something about which men discourse.
Now second--there's Evil, some add that to the list
Still others would argue that it does not exist.
But then thirdly say those, you'll be happy to find,
That the whole mess is only a question of Mind!
Retribution is fourth if your ways you don't mend--
(Expletive deleted) may describe your foul end.
Yet if all of this squawking to you seems obscure,
If what you are seeking is the simple and pure,
Then, trust dear old Poly, your eclectic friend,

NEBUCHADNEZZAR THE KING TO ALL THE PEOPLES, NATIONS, AND MEN OF EVERY LANGUAGE
WHO LIVE IN ALL THE EARTH: MAY YOUR PEACE ABOUND!
I THOUGHT IT GOOD TO DECLARE THE SIGNS AND WONDERS THAT THE MOST HIGH GOD
HAS DONE FOR ME. HOW GREAT ARE HIS SIGNS! AND HOW MIGHTY ARE HIS WONDERS!
HIS KINGDOM IS AN EVERLASTING KINGDOM AND HIS DOMINION IS FROM GENERATION TO
GENERATION!
I NEBUCHADNEZZAR WAS AT REST IN MY HOUSE, AND FLOURISHING IN MY PALACE. I
SAW A DREAM WHICH MADE ME AFRAID, AND THE THOUGHTS AS I LAY ON MY BED AND THE
VISIONS IN MY MIND KEPT ON TROUBLING ME. SO I GAVE ORDERS TO BRING IN ALL THE
WISE MEN OF BABYLON BEFORE ME, IN ORDER THAT THEY MIGHT MAKE KNOWN TO ME THE
INTERPRETATION OF THE DREAM. THEN THE MAGICIANS, THE ASTROLOGERS, THE
CHALDEANS, AND THE SOOTHSAYERS CAME IN, AND I TOLD THE DREAM TO THEM; BUT THEY
COULD NOT MAKE ITS INTERPRETATION KNOWN TO ME. BUT FINALLY DANIEL CAME IN
BEFORE ME, WHOSE NAME IS BELTESHAZZAR ACCORDING TO THE NAME OF MY GOD, AND IN
WHOM IS A SPIRIT OF THE HOLY GODS; AND I TOLD HIM THE DREAM, SAYING,
"O BELTESHAZZAR, CHIEF OF THE MAGICIANS, SINCE I KNOW THAT A SPIRIT OF THE HOLY
GODS IS IN YOU AND NO SECRET BAFFLES YOU, TELL ME THE VISIONS OF MY DREAM WHICH
I HAVE SEEN, ALONG WITH ITS INTERPRETATION."
THEN DANIEL, WHOSE NAME IS BELTESHAZZAR, WAS APPALLED FOR AWHILE AS HIS
THOUGHTS ALARMED HIM. THE KING RESPONDED AND SAID, "BELTESHAZZAR, DO NOT LET
THE DREAM OR ITS INTERPRETATION ALARM YOU." BELTESHAZZAR ANSWERED AND SAID,
"MY LORD, IF ONLY THE DREAM APPLIED TO THOSE WHO HATE YOU, AND ITS
INTERPRETATION TO YOUR ENEMIES! THE TREE THAT YOU SAW, WHICH BECAME LARGE AND
GREW STRONG, WHOSE HEIGHT REACHED TO THE SKY AND WAS VISIBLE TO ALL THE EARTH,
AND WHOSE LEAVES WERE BEAUTIFUL AND ITS FRUIT ABUNDANT, AND IN WHICH WAS FOOD
FOR ALL, BENEATH WHICH THE BEASTS OF THE FIELD DWELT AND IN WHOSE BRANCHES THE
BIRDS OF THE AIR LODGED--IT IS YOU, O KING; FOR YOU HAVE BECOME GREAT AND GROWN
STRONG, AND YOUR MAJESTY HAS BECOME GREAT AND REACHED TO THE SKY AND YOUR
DOMINION TO THE END OF THE EARTH. AND IN THAT THE KING SAW A WATCHER, A HOLY
ONE, DESCENDING FROM HEAVEN AND SAYING, "CHOP DOWN THE TREE AND DESTROY IT; YET
LEAVE THE STUMP WITH ITS ROOTS IN THE GROUND, BUT WITH A BAND OF IRON AND
BRONZE AROUND IT IN THE NEW GRASS OF THE FIELD, AND LET HIM BE WET WITH THE DEW
OF THE FIELD, AND LET HIM SHARE WITH THE BEASTS OF THE FIELD UNTIL SEVEN YEARS
PASS OVER HIM;" THIS IS THE INTERPRETATION, O KING, AND THIS IS THE DECREE OF
THE MOST HIGH, WHICH HAS COME UPON MY LORD THE KING: THAT YOU BE DRIVEN AWAY
FROM MANKIND, AND YOUR DWELLING PLACE BE WITH THE BEASTS OF THE FIELD, AND YOU
BE GIVEN GRASS TO EAT LIKE CATTLE AND BE WET WITH THE DEW OF HEAVEN; AND SEVEN
YEARS WILL PASS OVER YOU, UNTIL YOU RECOGNIZE THAT THE MOST HIGH IS RULER OVER
THE REALM OF MANKIND, AND BESTOWS IT ON WHOMEVER HE WISHES. AND IN THAT IT
WAS COMMANDED TO LEAVE THE STUMP WITH THE ROOTS OF THE TREE, YOUR KINGDOM WILL
BE ASSURED TO YOU AFTER YOU RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS HEAVEN THAT RULES. THEREFORE,
O KING, LET MY ADVISE BE PLEASING TO YOU: BREAK AWAY NOW FROM YOUR SINS BY
DOING RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND FROM YOUR INIQUITIES BY SHOWING MERCY TO THE POOR, IN
CASE THERE MAY BE A PROLONGING OF YOUR TRANQUILLITY."
ALL THIS HAPPENED TO NEBUCHADNEZZAR THE KING. TWELVE MONTHS LATER HE WAS
WALKING ON THE ROOF OF THE ROYAL PALACE OF BABYLON. THE KING REFLECTED AND
SAID, "IS THIS NOT BABYLON THE GREAT, WHICH I MYSELF HAVE BUILT AS A ROYAL
RESIDENCE BY THE MIGHT OF MY POWER AND FOR THE GLORY OF MY MAJESTY?" WHILE THE
WORD WAS IN THE KING'S MOUTH, A VOICE CAME FROM HEAVEN, SAYING, "O KING
NEBUCHADNEZZAR, TO YOU IT IS DECLARED: SOVEREIGNTY HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM YOU,
AND YOU WILL BE DRIVEN AWAY FROM MANKIND, AND YOUR DWELLING PLACE WILL BE WITH
THE BEASTS OF THE FIELD. YOU WILL BE GIVEN GRASS TO EAT LIKE CATTLE, AND SEVEN
YEARS WILL PASS OVER YOU, UNTIL YOU RECOGNIZE THAT THE MOST HIGH IS RULER OVER
THE REALM OF MANKIND AND BESTOWS IT ON WHOMEVER HE WISHES." IMMEDIATELY THE
WORD CONCERNING NEBUCHADNEZZAR WAS FULFILLED; AND HE WAS DRIVEN AWAY FROM
MANKIND AND BEGAN EATING GRASS LIKE CATTLE, AND HIS BODY WAS WET WITH THE DEW
OF HEAVEN, UNTIL HIS HAIR HAD GROWN LIKE EAGLES' FEATHERS AND HIS NAILS LIKE
BIRDS' CLAWS. BUT AT THE END OF THAT PERIOD I, NEBUCHADNEZZAR, RAISED MY EYES
TOWARD HEAVEN, AND MY REASON RETURNED TO ME, AND I BLESSED THE MOST HIGH AND
PRAISED AND HONORED HIM WHO LIVES FOR EVER; FOR HIS DOMINION IS AN EVERLASTING
DOMINION, AND HIS KINGDOM ENDURES FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. AND ALL THE
INHABITANTS OF THE EARTH ARE ACCOUNTED AS NOTHING, BUT HE DOES ACCORDING TO HIS
WILL IN THE HOST OF HEAVEN AND AMONG THE INHABITANTS OF EARTH; AND NO ONE CAN
STAY HIS HAND OR SAY TO HIM, "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" AT THAT TIME MY REASON
RETURNED TO ME. AND MY MAJESTY AND SPLENDOR WERE RESTORED TO ME FOR THE GLORY
OF MY KINGDOM, AND MY COUNSELORS AND MY NOBLES BEGAN SEEKING ME OUT; SO I WAS
REESTABLISHED IN MY SOVEREIGNTY, AND SURPASSING GREATNESS WAS ADDED TO ME. NOW
I NEBUCHADNEZZAR PRAISE, EXALT, AND HONOR THE KING OF HEAVEN, FOR ALL HIS WORKS
ARE TRUE AND HIS WAYS JUST, AND HE IS ABLE TO HUMBLE THOSE WHO WALK IN PRIDE.

Gesturing to the class to come to order, Professor Sudo Didaskalos
readies himself to speak.
"Today I want to begin with a review of the fundamental principles of
evolution starting with the premise that the origin and development of all
things is accomplished by continuing natural processes in a closed universe.
A closed universe is one that is complete within itself having no external
influence. Such a system is self-contained, having its own structures, laws,
properties, principles and processes which are sufficient to explain the
origin, the meaning and future of all things by those processes now in
operation. By a slow and orderly progression of these natural processes over
the ages we are able to explain the net increase in the complexity of things,
the present order being characterized by processes which produce innovation
and which increase complexity, or order, or information." Just then the girl
next to you raised her hand to ask a question. "Yes, Rose."
"Professor Didaskalos, I know that science has observed and demonstrated
horizontal changes in complex systems such as variations within a species, and
downward vertical movement of a complex system to a lower level of complexity
as seen in decay, but what scientific proof have you to offer in support of
natural processes producing any system with an increased complexity?"
"Because natural processes move extremely slow, no one has been able to
observe them. However, Miss Glass, we do have the fossil records."
"But Professor, since none of us were able to observe these processes, how
is it possible to prove what happened or the length of time involved? O'Rouke,
a geologist writing in the January '76 American Journal of Science says: 'The
rocks date the fossils but the fossils date the rocks more accurately.' Like
my dog when he chases his tail, that kind of reasoning goes around in circles--
you must assume what you are going to prove in order to prove it. Or, to put
it another way, 'I say so because it is true but because it is true I say so!'
But when I take statistical improbabilities along with other scientific
evidence under consideration, I am forced to conclude that those who embrace
and expound the theory of evolution as the explanation for the origin of life
are exercising an inordinate quantity of irrational faith. Especially since
evolutionists can show no proof of a transitional form."
"Miss Glass! Are you suggesting that evolution is not scientific; or that
you might have a better explanation? Are you aware of the fact that every
system of cosmogony in the world is based on evolution except for the Biblical
claim of special creation. If that is what you want to hear, perhaps you would
do well to return to Sunday school! This institution is dedicated to the free
exchange of all views, but that particular dogma will not be tolerated here!
Now then, if you intend to survive in this class you will learn evolution."
At that moment a bell sounded ending class and Miss Rose C. Glass, looking
a bit bewildered by it all, quietly departs the room unmindful of the paper she
left behind. Didaskalos vanishes mysteriously toward the east.

CREATED MALE AND FEMALE
The question is, if a mutation produced the first male for example, it is
not likely at all that another mutation would have produced the first female
at the same time or in the same location. Furthermore, studies now show that
with the current genetic errors we all carry around within us, one male and one
female would not be enough to establish a new population of male and female
creatures.
The question is important and evolutionists have admitted that their
theory does not have a satisfactory explanation for how male and female could
have developed. One evolutionist even noted that because evolutionists have no
good explanation for the development of male and female most textbooks simply
ignore the question as obvious as it is.
Evolutionists also point out that the problems in explaining where male
and female comes from are even greater than those already mentioned.
Evolutionists now admit that their own studies show that if creatures progress
by evolution, creatures who produce sexually would be at a disadvantage. Even
worse, sexual reproduction is, as one evolutionist put it, designed to weed out
the very genetic variations which supposedly cause evolution. It is difficult
to understand then how anyone could say that evolution offers a better
explanation of life than the Bible does.

"This morning I would like to discuss von Bertalanffy's law of syntropy. This
law counteracts the demonstrable law of entropy and accounts for the high level
of organization and design that we see around us in nature today. To explain
this further, four points may be reasonably employed. (1) entropy is a fact
(2) the existence of highly organized systems is a fact (3) evolution is a
fact, so therefore, (4) there must be an additional law to counteract entropy
and account for evolution."
Well! Entropy and highly organized systems you've seen, but, as for evolution
being a fact of cosmogony, any honest scientist will have to admit that it is
impossible to prove and can only be accepted on the principle of faith. As for
syntropy, Isn't that begging the question?

Why and Wherefore set out one day
To hunt for a wild negation.
They agreed to meet at a cool retreat
On the Point of Interrogation.
But the night was dark and they missed their mark,
And, driven well nigh to distraction,
They lost their ways in a murky maze
Of utter abstruse abstraction.
They took a boat and were soon afloat
On the Sea of Speculation,
But the sea grew rough, and their boat, though tough,
Was split into an equation.
As they floundered about in the waves of doubt
Rose a fearful hypothesis,
Who gibbered with glee as they sank in the sea,
And the last they saw was this:
On a rock bound reef of unbelief
There sat the wild negation;
When they sank once more and were washed ashore
At the Point of Interrogation.

Solomon, after applying all of his great wisdom, drew this conclusion and also
wrote it in a book. "Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when you shall say, I
have no pleasure in them; ..... And further, by these, my son be admonished: of
making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His
commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every
work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it
be evil." Ecclesiastes 12:1, 12-14
You know, I enjoy books for what they can bring to me. In them are found
facts, fiction, history, humor, music, poetry, and much, much more. But above
all, there is one book that is tops on my list. The Bible. It's the all time
"best seller". Have you read it? On its pages are recorded what God would
have us know about Himself, mankind and more. Of course, like many other
things in life, it involves the matter of belief and unbelief. I have read and
believed its message which has changed my life. Indeed, Jesus Christ died for
the sin of the whole world, being raised again to show that His sacrifice was
satisfactory. Now then, all that remains is for each man to obey the word of
God. The apostle John put it this way: "This is His commandment, that we
should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even
as He gave us commandment. And he that keeps His commandments abides in Him,
and He in him." 1 John 3:23-24
If you want to win this game, or more importantly at the game of life, there
will come a time and place when you must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Poor unfortunate that you are, you have chosen a wrong way. Turning, you
stumble, dislodging a large volume that was holding up the stack of tomes that
crushes you.

At first you consider their possible meaning. One definition for grace is
"unmerited favor"; whereas, faith frequently involves "the act of believing".
Piecing things together with bits of information you have read or heard before,
you realize that the words themselves also can be used to form an acrostic.

One drink, fix or illicit sexual relationship may seem harmless at the
moment, yet no one is able to predict with absolute certainty where it will
lead or the effect it will have. However, one thing does seem evident, that
as long as men occupy this mortal flesh they will have problems with desires
that get out of control. So then, the purpose here is not to further incite
the imagination but rather to commend the virtue found in self-control and
perhaps cause you to think about some of the hidden dangers. Many a story
might be told of how the misuse of drugs and sex has ruined life and health.
Perhaps you can think of someone you know to whom this is happening even now.
Sad, but true, the piper must be paid. Ah! But there is good news.
In the Bible I read about the help God provides for those who are engaged
in the battle for self-control. Each person can experience ultimate victory
when he seeks it by exercising faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Not only did
He die for sin, He also rose from the dead to provide a new life with power
over it for those who put their trust in Him. Putting it to the test in my
own life, I have found this to be true.
My best recommendation for you in life (and in the game) is that you
should also believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
It now becomes apparent that you have been led astray by your would-be
friends.

"Professing themselves to be wise, men became fools." For man said, "Let us
make god in our image that we might have dominion over him." And thereby they
traded the glory of the incorruptible God for images made like corruptible man.
So man formed gods out of the dust of his head, and in his own likeness created
he them both males and females. Now one they called Gramps, for he was old and
senile, deaf and blind; and because he was lonely he tried very hard to please
everyone, and was ever so grateful for the least of their attentions--and that
is just what he got--while they gobbled his goodies and robbed his pockets and
sought mostly to please themselves. Gramps applauded them with only one hand.
Yet others made god from a yardstick by which they measured themselves by
themselves, and they looked down at other men--but never! no never looked up!
And they said, "Truth is what we say it is. Please, spare us the confusion of
facts." They plant their feet firmly on air while gravity goes out for a walk.
Then the call went out across the land to worship Hypothesis; and great
multitudes gathered to mount PHuD, for of a truth it was Piled High and Deep.
There every man scribed his own god supposing that his was supreme--but anarchy
reigned, and great was the thud of PHuD, for every one worshipped himself.
In no way are the gods that man creates able to deliver him--but THE GOD
who created all things can!
Having fallen into the Prime Ordeal Ooze, with nothing solid on which to
stand, you slowly sink beneath its murky surface.

"Yes, Ham, I do. In fact, I agree with King David, who wrote these words

me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and

"You're right about one thing, Ham, the Bible, although agreeing with true
science, is not meant to be a science book. More importantly, it provides us
with moral and spiritual values on which to base our standards for society and
culture. It teaches us to value and have respect for life in all forms."
"Come off it man! I don't believe it, and I have a respect for living
things! I don't kick my dog or walk on the grass!"
"But Ham, if we condone the killing of unborn children--what's next,
euthanasia? Then who will decide who will die and for what reason? 'You're
to old; you are crippled, blind or have a low I.Q.' What about the person who
thinks about their sick parent, child or mate, 'I don't want you any more.
You're not convenient.'--and has them 'put to sleep'? I'd call that murder."
"Goodie, come out of the Dark Ages man. That could never happen in an
enlightened society!"
"Ham, it already has. In the early part of the twentieth century people
were freely practicing abortion and euthanasia. Doubtless, such disregard for
the value of life reflected in that society's attitude contributed greatly to
the terrible atrocities which were later committed by the Nazis."
"Are you calling me a murderer and a Nazi? I don't have to take that kind
of abuse from you!
Well! There you have it, ladies and gentlemen, a man who just called all
of us Nazis and murderers. Thank you! Mr. Goodie T. Sabot.
Be sure and join me again next time when I will bring to light for you the
truth behind another important issue."

Persuaded that you can indeed be the master of your fate, you boldly ascend
the ephemeral staircase that so miraculously appeared while talking with
Mr. Hanagash. Glancing over your shoulder you see him smiling wryly up at you.
In the garden of Eden Satan's scheme was to defeat the plan of God by getting
man to act independent of God and in so doing to become like God. How foolish
it is to think that the creature could ever equal the Creator. Our progenitors
did gain some understanding of the difference between good and evil but in the
process managed to separate themselves and their progeny from God by their
rebellion. Nevertheless, God promised and now has provided reconciliation for
us through the redemptive work of Christ Jesus who died for our sin, was buried
because He was dead, then rose from among the dead victorious over death with
new life for all who will put their trust in Him. "For as in Adam all die, so
also in Christ shall all be made alive." 1 Corinthians 15:22
As for our friend Mr. Hanagash (the serpent), the prophet Isaiah says this--
How you have fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! You have been
cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations! For you said in your
heart, "I will ascend into heaven, I will raise my throne above the stars of
God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the
Most High." Nevertheless you will be thrust down to hell, to the recesses of
the pit.
What you also now discover is that the short-lived bridge that was to conduct
you to untold heights is disappearing in a shower of sparks. Plummeting toward
your death on the paving far below, you realize much to late that other forces
are at work here far beyond your control and you've been had.

With every good intention you carefully descend the steps.--
I recall facing this dilemma one evening many years ago on Howard Street
in San Francisco. When my offer to get help was refused a sincere doubt arose
in my mind about the intentions of the one calling for help. Beyond a doubt
the man had a need, whether physical, spiritual or both I cannot say. However,
this incident has caused me to think about those all around me who are less
fortunate and how they might best be helped. While meeting the physical needs,
I believe the greatest help one can give or receive spiritually is the good
news concerning Jesus Christ. As you play the game I trust you will read and
consider what has been included in it about Him for your benefit.--
Meanwhile, far above you in the news directors office he is slapping the

"My friend, I've been around a long time and I know that most folks who
come by here are pretty much down on their luck and without hope. Sometimes it
seems as though we had no choice in what happened to us and other times we know
we are to blame. If I may, I would like to share this story with you from the
fifteenth chapter of Luke's Gospel. 'If anyone of you has a hundred sheep and
loses one of them, don't you leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go
after the lost one till you find it? When you find it, you lay it on your
shoulders and are glad. You go home and call your friends and neighbors
together and say to them, "Be happy with me. I found my lost sheep." So, I
tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than
over ninety-nine good people who don't need to repent.' In John's Gospel
Jesus tells us, 'I Am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd gives His life for
the sheep.' This helps us to see what the prophet Isaiah means when he says,
'Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered
Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our
transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought
us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.' He continues, 'We
all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and
the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and
afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; He was led like a lamb to the
slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His
mouth.' In this passage we see Jesus the Good Shepherd, giving His life as a
sacrificial lamb for sinners, that's us (the sheep gone astray). When one
washes himself in the blood of the Lamb by faith in Jesus, 'the Lamb of God Who
takes away the sin of the world,' not only is there joy in heaven but there is
a great joy in one's own heart accompanied by love, peace and a new hope.
My guess is that your pretty near the bottom and the only other way out of
this place is down, down, down. Why not trust him?"

Rubbing yourself off as best you can, you check for exits. Evidently, the only

Having escaped the river once, it is plain to see that chancing the deadly
currents again probably will mean your doom. Echoing over the water's surface
comes the refrain--
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed
In the blood of the Lamb?
Growing up on a farm can have its special moments. Around the age of three I
experienced the misfortune of falling into the creek that traversed my father's
pig pen. After three scourings, administered by my mother, some of the stink
still remained. Needless to say, water and I have not always been the best of
friends since.
Just as impossible for man is the ability to rid himself of the stain and stink
of his own sin. Thankfully, cleansing can be found by washing in the blood of
the Lamb. John the baptist put it this way: "Behold, the Lamb of God that
takes away the sin of the world." When we look to the Lord Jesus Christ for
spiritual cleansing he will not disappoint us. Why not believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ now?

TEXT 214 ; OLD BOOK
The book falls open to the Gospel of John. You note that the pages are stained
by tears and yellowed by age. Someone, perhaps the original owner has marked
certain passages. Thumbing through you read ...
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through
Him; and without Him nothing came into being which has come into existence. In
Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the
darkness; and the darkness did not extinguish it.
...
He, the Word, was the genuine light which enlightens spiritually every man as
it comes into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being
through Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, but His own
received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He the authority
to become the born-ones of God, even to them who believe on His name, who were
born, not of bloods, nor of the desire of the flesh, nor of the desire of man,
but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld His
glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.
...
John the baptizer seeing Jesus coming to him said, Behold, the Lamb of God,
that takes away the sin of the world!
... (Jesus talking with Nicodemus)
Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of
man be lifted up; that whosoever believes in Him may have eternal life. For
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believes on Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God sent not His
Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world should be saved
through Him. He who believes on Him is not condemned: he who believes not
has been condemned already, because he has not believed on the name of the only
begotten Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the
world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were
evil. For every one who practices evil hates the light, and comes not to the
light, lest his works should be rebuked. But he who practices the truth comes
to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been produced
in God.
... (Jesus speaking to the Pharisees)
Truly, I say to you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead shall hear the
voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. For as the Father has
life in Himself, even so gave He to the Son also to have life in Himself: and
He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is a son of man.
Marvel not at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs
shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they who have done good, unto the
resurrection of life; and they who have done evil, unto the resurrection of
judgment.
...
You search the sacred writings, because you think that in them you have eternal
life; and these are they which bear witness of me; and you will not come to me,
that you may have life.
...
Jesus says to Thomas, I alone am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one
comes to the Father except through me.
...
But these things are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
Lifting your eyes from the page, you find yourself agreeing with the warning.
If true, the claims in this book certainly can put one's thoughts into a stir.
To those seeking for an answer here, the thesis written on its pages obviously
would be trust in Jesus.
